Frequently Asked Questions

Mat Time

There is a time for everything!

The mat time activities are very important and we want every child to have the opportunity to participate in them without distraction, so PLEASE DO NOT CHAT during this part of the program. We encourage parents to talk to one another before class, during equipment time and after class. Please participate with your child and save conversations for later.

Illness

Please DO NOT bring your child to class if they are unwell. If your child has an extended illness or injury, please notify the centre as soon as possible so that we can make arrangements for future classes.

Missed Classes

Make up classes are only available if your child misses their scheduled class due to illness. Due to the demand for make up positions they are NOT available for social commitments.

Make up classes must be booked in advance on (02) 6362 1194, and as close as practicable to the missed class.

If you book a make up class and cannot attend please phone to cancel it. Failure to cancel will forfeit the makeup class.

Make up classes must be taken within the duration of the enrolled term, they cannot be carried forward to the following term.

Class Changes

Subject to availability, you are welcome to change your class time and day.

Refunds

Cancellations will be charged a $25 administration fee.

Refunds are calculated from the date the centre is informed of your intention to cancel less the admin fee. If you call the same day as your scheduled class that session is not included in the refund. We will only give a refund for medical reasons or if you are moving away from the area.

Siblings

Please attend with your enrolled child only. If you have to bring a sibling, seat them in a stroller or adjacent to the mat. They are strictly NOT permitted on the equipment, as they are not covered by insurance.

Public Holidays

We are closed on all public holidays unless otherwise specified.

The equipment is CLOSED at Mat Time

The mat time activities are very important and we want every child to have the opportunity to participate in them.
It is important that your little ones get used to the routines so please follow your teachers lead.

Strategies For Cooperation

You are not alone!

We have strategies that we can suggest if your child is struggling to sit through the mat time section of the lesson. Each child is different and can respond in many ways to new situations. It usually takes 3 to 4 weeks for a new child to settle in. Some children prefer to sit and watch at mat time, joining in later in the term when they feel more secure. Please do not feel pressured if you child is not conforming during the lesson, we will help you through this time.

Behavioural Concerns

Please discuss any difficulties you are having with your child at mat time or on the equipment. It can take 3 to 4 weeks for new children to settle into the routines. We have strategies that may help you through this period.

We welcome your discussion of any problems or concerns you may be having. Please feel free to ring the centre if you would prefer a private discussion. We are here to assist you in any way we can.

The Circuit

Lots of fun!

There are many activities on the equipment circuit. Please do not feel pressured to do everything. Let your child go at his/her own pace, experiencing each activity to the full. There will be some activities your child will want to repeat again and again. They are simply mastering new skills, let them have their own GymbaROO experience.

Why Massage?

This is the gift of touch, as essential as food and water. Massage helps develop body awareness and stimulates muscle tone. It is also a special bonding opportunity for you and your child.

Why Drink Water?

It is important for children to have water available to them throughout their classes. Our brains are 90% water and should not be allowed to become dehydrated during learning. By drinking water they optimise their learning at GymbaROO. Fruit juice is treated as food by the body and has to go through the digestive system, and therefore is not available to the brain for several hours. WATER is best.

Shoes OFF in the Gym

For both guardians and children.

Children need to experience the activities with bare feet. Gripping and feeling tactile surfaces with their feet while climbing and balancing on the equipment is essential to their motor development. It allows them to experience the activities using all their senses. We request that parents remove their shoes as well for the cleanliness and hygiene of the floor and equipment.

Treasure Bag

Each term we have a theme, from which we choose specific animals or items to come out of the Treasure Bag each week. If you have something relating to the weeks TB please bring it along to class. This gives your child the excitement of seeing their special treasure pulled out of the bag. The visualisation book word and picture match the treasure bag item. The list of items are in the front of your scrapbook.

Name Recognition

The names are set out in the waiting area so that the children can learn to recognise their own name. Encourage your child to find their own name in a positive way and place it in their bib.

Gymbaroo Visualisation Book

The children also see their name on their book, and at the end of their class they need to listen for their name. Please bring your child’s book to every class, and encourage them to place it in the white basket at the beginning of their lesson. The word for the week and the stamp can be placed in the book in the waiting area. Please only stamp their right hand and foot. The visualisation book pictures and words give you the opportunity to extend Gymbaroo at home. BabyROO classes also receive a visualisation book to follow up the words and pictures at home.

Stamp

Distinguish right and left.

We always put a stamp on the right hand. The verbal cue of Stamp on your right hand reinforces the right side, which in time becomes an automatic response. Older children soon learn to distinguish between their right stamp side and their left. If your child prefers not to receive a stamp on their hand, please let us know.
